About the program...
Welcome to the Eaglecrest Adventure Program website! Above, you will find links for any information you may need to know about the program.
The Adventure Program is part of the Physical Education department at Eaglecrest High School. The mission of the Eaglecrest Adventure Program (EAP) is to develop strong and competent leaders who understand and utilize their voice and make choices that affect themselves, their school, community and the world positively. This is done through adventure activities that provide the opportunity for challenge and personal growth. The curriculum is aimed at developing the following skills in students: compassion, courage, discipline, generosity, gratitude, honesty, humility, patience, perseverance, respect, and trust.
The EHS Adventure Program has four classes as well as a co-curricular club.
Adventure Education one ($30 Class fee) offers students a chance to develop their voice and the ability to make positive choices through group challenges and initiatives and team building strategies. Units of study include Indoor Rock Climbing, Orienteering, Camping, Cooking, Survival, Wilderness First Aid and Hiking.
Adventure Education two ($30 Class fee) is an outdoor education class that teaches students more advanced skills including: OutdoorRock Climbing and Anchor Building, Backpacking, Map and Compass Orienteering, Survival, Wilderness First Aid, Geocaching, State and National Park Ethics and Current Events, and Successfully Accessing the Colorado Outdoors.
Adventure Leadership Training (ALT) is a class in which students learn how to facilitate lower level adventure classes, and feeder-area middle school and elementary school students. ALT students are taught techniques of teaching and given practical experience in facilitating student groups.
In Adventure leader, students are the primary teachers of an Adventure Education One course. They are responsible for the planning and teaching as well as the growth of their students (who also happen to be their peers!). Students in this class are mentored by Ms. Vidal, the Adventure Education teacher, and are given several co-teaching opportunities to facilitate the class.
